In response to the unimaginable destruction and loss of life caused by Typhoon Haiyan, textPlus announces that users trying to call the Philippines can do so for free starting today. Technology is meant to help during emergencies like this, and textPlus is hopeful our service can reconnect families and friends affected by this disaster.

Calling on the free textPlus app is available worldwide for Apple and Android. Those wishing to use textPlus to call the Philippines need only make the call to any number in the Philippines and it will be free.

textPlus calling and texting uses Wi-Fi, so if cell networks are unreliable or down, app users in the Philippines will still be able to call and text loved ones in or out of the country.

During last year’s Superstorm Sandy, textPlus donated 10 million free calling minutes to help victims and their loved ones talk to each other. We hope textPlus can help those affected by Typhoon Haiyan stay connected with distant relatives and friends.

Our thoughts are with those lost in this terrible disaster and for those whose long path to recovery is now only beginning.
