As far as inventions go, wireless internet ranks right up there with running water, electricity, and yes; the toilet. In 2013, access to the Internet is incredibly essential.
Whether you’re applying for a job, trying to stay up-to-date on the news, or trying to connect with friends and family: the Internet should be easily accessible and enjoyed by all. But there’s still a dearth of establishments that offer great free access to WiFi.
Admit it: you’ve been to a coffee shop, bookstore, or restaurant where the WiFi is too slow, too weak, or too expensive. Thankfully, more and more nationwide chains are providing wireless Internet to anyone who walks through their doors.
We commend the following chains for making access to the Internet gloriously free and easy. Here are our favorite chains for using WiFi:
McDonald’s: Largely because of its international scope and universal dining experience, McDonald's leads the pack in offering free WiFi. With 11,500 participating restaurants, the mega-chain is committed to providing everyone access to the Internet. In a rush? You can find the McDonald's Wi-Fi Hotspot nearest you here.
Starbucks: Starbucks offers one of the most dependable and consistent WiFi connections around. The chain recently implemented Google as its Internet provider, which means that a WiFI connection at Starbucks is now up to ten times faster than it was before.
Winchell’s: The 24-hour doughnut chain offers free WiFi to patrons – which means that anyone who’s in dire need of a connection in the middle of the night can rest assured that Winchell’s will be open and online.
Panera Bread: Panera Bread serves delicious soups and sandwiches, but they also serve up a great complimentary WiFi connection. Whether you’re meeting with your study group, or enjoying a solo meal while perusing the interwebs. Panera has a consistent and dependable wirless connection. (Pro tip: here are a few unspoken rules about using the free WiFi at Panera.)
Dunkin Donuts: “America runs on Dunkin,” is the nationwide doughnut chain’s motto, and they’re not kidding. America can also run their loftiest WiFi-fueled pursuits on the brand’s complimentary wireless internet. You can look for a DD with WiFi easily here.
Buffalo Wild Wings: Buffalo Wild Wings is a great place to get delicious buffalo wings and a strong WiFi connection, at most locations. Diners can enjoy a sports game, eat great buffalo wings and surf the web all from their seat. Does it get much better than that?
Target: Ok, it might not be a restaurant, but you can get almost anything you really need (and don’t need for that matter) at big box chain Target – and that includes a great free WiFi connection. Late last year, the store rolled out complimentary WiFi in its stores.
