textPlusers Say Texting Plays a Big Role During Olympics

Recently, a study from the UK showed that people are more likely to send a text than make a phone call when communicating with friends and family. We here at textPlus love that texting is becoming a primary way to communicate. After all, we text everyday, every hour even. But, what happens at major sporting events like the Olympics? Will folks call, text or talk in person the most about the games?

Whether it’s chatting about different sports, teams, athletes, opening/closing ceremonies or award recognitions, our survey results may surprise you. 38% of survey respondents said texting would be the main way they would chat with friends about the games. This was second only to in-person communication, with 42% of respondents saying it’s the primary way they will talk about the Olympics.

What will users be texting about?
Overwhelmingly, 74% said their favorite sport. Additionally, 70% of textPlusers said they will encourage their friends to watch the Olympics via text. After all, the more the merrier!

Over 1,000 textPlusers responded to our survey, and half were teens between the ages of 13-17.

The Olympics start today!
What will you text your bestie about?

Let the games begin!
