It’s that time of year again- PROM!
Which begs the questions - how will you ask your date out? And how will you accept?
We surveyed over 1200 textPlusers about texting and the prom. And our results were a bit shocking. 58% said they would ask their date out via a text message! And a whopping 67% said they would accept a date to prom if asked by text.
Ok- so you like to text. We get it.
But if you’re going to ask or accept a text message about the prom, we have some “best practices” tips for ya:
+ First, personalize your text when you ask - you don’t want it to seem like you sent a blast text to multiple potential dates
+ Speaking of text blasts, don’t ever ask several people out at once. Perhaps the worst move possible.
+ If you get asked to the prom via text, respond in a few hours - it’s just polite.
+ Skip the text shortcuts and take the time to type out full, spell check words. You can always ask a friend to help you write it out.

+ Get creative with your cell phone camera - for instance, text a pic of yourself holding a sign saying “will you go to prom with me?”
+ If you don’t hear back within 24 hours after you’ve sent the text, dial their digits and ask over the phone. It can’t hurt.
+ Let them hear your voice and sing them an invitation via textPlus Voice Notes. It’s always nice for your date-to-be to hear your excitement.
+ 50% of those surveyed said they will use group texting to make plans for prom with their friends. We’d encourage that, too.
Now that you have your date, what will you wear?
67% of textPlusers we surveyed said they text photos trying on outfits for prom. If you’re looking for feedback from friends, try creating a private community on textPlus and let the style show begin!
