textPlus Blog

Welcome to the textPlus family, Canada.

It's time for the Winter Olympics so we decided to do something special.

You asked for it, and we have delivered.

After many many months of hard work, our team has flipped the switch on support for Canadian carriers. That's right, you can now text all of your friends in the true north!!!

For free ;)

As of a few hours ago, textPlus now supports texting to the following carriers: Rogers, Telus, Bell, Fido, Virgin, Aliant, Northern Tel Mobility, SaskTel, and Telebec Mobilite

No extra cost to your friends there, since we now have 60611 in Canada now as well!

It's a pretty huge day for us and a momentous event (especially since it's something you guys and gals have asked for a lot)...might as well time it with something equally as epic, the 2010 Winter Olympics.

So to recap:

- No need to re-download textPlus to be able to text people in the US and Canada (unless you don't have it yet, in that case...get it)
- Texts sent to your friends in Canada won't cost them anything extra, just a regular old text message in Canada just like the texts you send to your friends in the US.

Added bonus:

Remember these?

A pair of the limited edition textPlus texting gloves could be yours! How? Take a screenshot, picture or video of the first textPlus text you've sent to someone in Canada, and we'll pick 10 of the best introductions to textPlus. So be creative..maybe something like:

"HI CANADA IM IN UR TEXTZ FRUM TEXTPLUS"

Ok fine, maybe something more creative.

Email your submissions to me at drew@gogii.net with GLOVES as your subject line.

An awesome app. However, it was lagging for me quite a bit and crashed a couple of times after I opened the app. Also, could you add some "design" or more "color" i guess to the "Conversations" screen? That would make it so much more appealing. Keep it up! Thanks!

    okay,
we are texting in textplus!!! Everyday! Now, double check for my friend who does NOT have the app but a reg cell phone.... the 60611 no....... is that considered a premium text or really and truly a reg. text? (I know you say same charge as reg. sms but just want a double confirmation, can't really believe it y'know) She is w/ Fido btw...just don't want her to get burned come end of the month.
cheers! love this app if it really truly works like that!!!
  • Just a regular text :)

    Enjoy!

Yes thank you very much! Great app! One thing, there doesnt seem to have support for special characters like accents (yes in french, I live in Quebec) and instead it sends a garbled word. Other than that it's perfect!

    Thanks again
  • We're workin' on that right now...can't give too many details but its gonna be HOT!

In Canada a cell customer can move from a company to another bringing his phone number with him. That's what I did passing from Rogers to Telus. I think it is the reason I don't get the verification code when I enter my phone number. My friend, who is also on Telus but never change cell company, received his verification code, not me.
  • Try texting the word START to the number 60611 and try to send the verification code again. Let me know if that works.
